TVNZ reporters and camera operators are among those being called to meetings to hear more about the company’s plans to axe about 50 jobs in a bid to save $30 million.

TVNZ reporters, camera operators and high-profile hosts have been involved in meetings as the state broadcaster moves to axe about 50 roles.

It is understood TVNZ plans to reduce the number of Breakfast host roles from three to two – the show is currently hosted by Jenny-May Clarkson, Anna Burns-Francis and Chris Chang, with Daniel Faitaua providing backfill. At least one of the hosts was seen in a meeting at TVNZ this morning.

“Out of respect for TVNZers privacy, we won’t be providing details on specific areas or roles,” a TVNZ spokeswoman said today.

Seven Sharp staff have also been caught up in the proposals, with plans to reportedly cut three reporting roles and two part-time production roles. It is not clear if any new roles might be introduced to cover this work.

Earlier, TVNZ reporters and camera operators are among those being called to meetings on Thursday to hear more about the company’s plans to axe about 50 jobs in a bid to save $30 million.

The company has proposed to get rid of 90 roles and create 41 new ones.
