Gregg Wallace has “stepped away” from his role as a MasterChef presenter after the BBC began a sexual harassment inquiry following a Telegraph investigation.

An allegation was made to the corporation of “inappropriate” behaviour by the TV presenter towards women on the set of the show.

Banijay UK, which makes the hit programme for the BBC, said it was conducting “an immediate, external review to fully and impartially investigate”.

It said: “While this review is under way, Gregg Wallace will be stepping away from his role on MasterChef and is committed to fully cooperating throughout the process.”
