Jim Grenon – the billionaire director of publicly listed media company NZME, the owner of the New Zealand Herald and Newstalk ZB – has become the company’s biggest shareholder.
Grenon, a Canadian-born billionaire, made headlines in March 2025 after he increased his shareholding to 9.3 per cent.
He then acquired more shares in September – holding just under 18.5 per cent.
On Friday, a notice posted to the NZX announced Grenon had acquired 1,780,123 shares for $1.984m – meaning he now has more than 19.90 per cent of the company.
