It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory John Moore, a long-time loyal supporter and active member of this community since the early days of Whaleoil.

Greg served his country with pride in the Royal New Zealand Navy. He was one of the toughest and most resilient men you could ever meet – a true character with a big heart and an unwavering spirit. After his naval career, he managed various properties and apartment complexes in Auckland before he moved to Queenstown to work and eventually retire in the place he loved.

In recent years, Greg was diagnosed with lung cancer during the Covid lockdowns. The combination of his illness and the restrictions meant he was unable to return to Auckland, despite his strong desire to do so.

Greg cherished his partner Jenny above all else and their relationship was a source of great joy and strength for him. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Jenny and all of Greg’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Rest in peace, brother Greg. You will be greatly missed by everyone who knew you on this site and beyond. Fair winds and following seas.
