Speaking on Australia’s Today show on Tuesday, Ardern reflected on life after politics, three years after stepping down as prime minister.

Dame Jacinda Ardern says moving to Australia has felt surprisingly familiar, with welcoming people, a strong Kiwi community and plenty of time at the beach helping her settle into life across the Tasman.

Speaking on Australia’s Today show on Tuesday, Ardern reflected on life after politics, three years after stepping down as prime minister.

“I should put out my usual disclaimer, New Zealand continues to be the best country in the world, but this is a wonderful place to be,” Ardern said.

Asked what she had enjoyed most about the move, she pointed to the similarities between New Zealanders and Australians.

“There’s so many similarities between Kiwis and Aussies and so it’s so like home in so many ways,” she said.

“People have been so welcoming. So it’s probably been our favourite bit and then the beach.”
