A gang member who killed a harmless man in “an act of thuggery” has been jailed for seven years in a cold case that culminated in Napier High Court.
Erueti Wirihana, 29, a patched Mongrel Mob member, was sentenced on Thursday for the manslaughter of Eddie Peters and conspiring to pervert the course of justice.
Peters, 45, was found critically injured in a pool of blood on a Hastings street just after midnight on November 16, 2018. He died one week later in Wellington Hospital.
The police investigation into Peters’ death was painstaking, and was the subject of a piece on the TV series Cold Case in 2022.
In July last year police arrested and charged Wirihana. In April he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and perverting the course of justice.
