Police Commissioner Richard Chambers believes it is “untenable” for superintendent Rakesh Naidoo to continue in his senior role within police after it was revealed Naidoo is standing for the Labour Party.
Chambers also says he is “very disappointed” Naidoo hadn’t informed him earlier of his intent to run as a candidate, adding to comments from Police Minister Mark Mitchell, who is concerned about Naidoo’s access to sensitive government policy details while in his role but considering campaigning for Labour.
Naidoo, the Ethnic, Iwi and Communities national partnerships manager at New Zealand Police, was today confirmed as a Labour list candidate, ranked high at 13 above many current sitting MPs.
