A media watchdog has thrown out a complaint against radio host Mike Hosking over his scathing assessment of the previous government’s pandemic response.
The Broadcasting Standards Authority refused to uphold the complaint by Martin Garrood regarding an episode of Mike’s Minute broadcast on Newstalk ZB on March 11, 2026.
The segment focused on Whītiki Aotearoa, the Phase Two report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Covid-19 Lessons Learned.
During the broadcast, Hosking listed 17 observations, telling listeners he was convinced the report was “a waste of time” and asserting the Labour government broadly “cock[ed] it up” and “badly”.
