Former New Zealand First MP and prominent Northland educator Jim Peters, the older brother of party leader Winston Peters, has died.
NZ First announced his death in a social media post this afternoon.
“It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of New Zealand First life member and former member of parliament, Jim Peters, MNZM,” the post read.
“Jim dedicated his life to public service, education, and regional development. A widely respected educator, he shaped countless young minds throughout his career.”
A renowned educator, he served as head of department at Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland, and principal at Northland College in Kaikohe.
He also served as Pro Vice-Chancellor Māori at the University of Auckland.
