A New Zealand pilot killed in a helicopter crash while fighting wildfires in the United States is being remembered as an “absolute, true professional”.
Greg King, from Geraldine in South Canterbury, was one of two pilots aboard the firefighting helicopter when it crashed in California’s Yosemite National Park on Sunday afternoon (local time).
Friends and former colleagues who spoke to Stuff were grieving the sudden loss of the well-liked and well-respected Kiwi pilot.
King was flying for US contractor Precision Helicopters and had been helping battle the Dome Fire, which has burned thousands of acres across rugged terrain near Yosemite.
