New Zealand First has announced that New Plymouth councillor Murray Chong will stand as a list candidate for the party in the upcoming election.
Chong has served on the council for 13 years, becoming one of three rotating deputy mayors in 2025.
“He is a dedicated local advocate ... previous business owner, and lifelong resident of the New Plymouth District. He comes from several generations of community leaders and advocates,” NZ First’s announcement on Friday said.
“He is popular for his strong beliefs in honest public service, bureaucratic transparency, and prudent use of public money.”
