Face of the Day

Erica Stanford backed Christopher Luxon’s decision to rule the Opportunity out, saying she did not believe it would make it over the five per cent threshold needed to enter parliament.

A senior National MP has described Opportunity as a “bunch of flakes,” and questioned what the party stands for.

Speaking to the Duncan Garner: Editor-in-Chief podcast, Erica Stanford backed her leader Christopher Luxon’s decision to rule the party out, saying she did not believe Opportunity would make it over the five per cent threshold needed to enter parliament.

“Honestly, I don’t think they’ll be there. All of our polling shows that they’re not going to be there. I really don’t think that they will be. I think they’ve peaked too early, and I think they’ve really alienated their base by shelving their really big core principles of what they actually, I thought, stood for.”

Stanford said she did not know what Opportunity stood for, saying it had a set of principles and then shelved them.

“I think they’re a bunch of flakes. What do they stand for, and what will they fall for? I don’t know. They keep chipping and chopping, and I don’t know who runs them.”
