Readers who voted for NZ First in the hope that Winston Peters would act as a hand brake on the government have had to endure a lot of criticism for their choice. Today however they can feel vindicated as we can thank Winston Peters for saying NO to Ardern’s hated Capital Gains Tax.
The hand brake was applied and I for one am very grateful.
The problem is that once a power like this exists, it rarely stays confined to one purpose. The same law that clears a footpath today could just as easily clear a protest tomorrow.
