National MP and finance spokeswoman Amy Adams will step down at the 2020 election. Adams has been the MP for Selwyn since 2008, where she enjoys one of the largest margins in the country. She has served as shadow attorney general and finance spokeswoman after losing the leadership race to Simon Bridges in early 2017.
Before opposition Adams held several cabinet positions, including Justice Minister and Social Housing Minister.
[…] She told media her decision had nothing to do with whether or not she thought National could win the next election […]
[…] “I’ve chosen to make this announcement now as given the seniority of the positions I hold in the Caucus I felt that it was important new people have time to establish themselves in those roles as we head towards 2020.”
[…] Fellow National electorate MP Alastair Scott, who represents the Wairarapa, also announced on Tuesday he would be stepping down.
