An event planner has slammed the Health Minister for telling Aucklanders not to attend a conference – advice which went against official guidelines.

During the daily coronavirus update, Health Minister Chris Hipkins said “no” when asked whether he was comfortable with Aucklanders attending a conference in Queenstown this weekend.

However, guidelines on the official Covid-19 website said conference events in Auckland could have up to 100 attendees. Hipkins said those who travelled outside of Auckland should take their alert level restrictions with them.

The country is in Covid-19 alert level 2, however Auckland has extra restrictions under alert level 2.5, which concern the number of people who attend social gatherings.
