National’s Sam Uffindell has won the Tauranga by-election preliminary count with 10931 votes (as at 9pm Saturday); Labour’s Jan Tinetti (4893 votes) has conceded. Official results should be available by 1 July.
Uffindell will propose a member’s bill authorising Tauranga police to disrupt gang convoys, issue participants with $500 infringements and impound vehicles.
