Part of the PM’s visit to Europe has involved encouraging tourists to return to NZ.

On a Facebook Live, she said, “We had three main goals for this trip, as had been the case with others so far: really focused on making sure that the world knows we are open, that we are open for business, that we are open for tourism and that we are very keen to welcome visitors back.”

’Cept, she forgot to mention our accommodation sector is seriously lacking workers and that some businesses are offering vouchers or discounts to guests if they service their own rooms, while others have reduced cleaning services to only a couple of times a week…

Hotel Council Aotearoa strategic director James Doolan says, “… in the first 12 months following border closures, the overnight accommodation sector lost more than half of its workforce”.
