Actor and playwright Oscar Kightley has announced he is running for Henderson-Massey in Auckland’s local elections.

He also argues the Government hasn’t gone far enough to redress the dawn raids of the 1970s. “They were such extraordinary times that I think an apology requires extraordinary compensation.”

A year ago, the NZ Government formally apologised to Pasifika for the dawn raids and provided $2.1 million for academic and vocational scholarships, $1 million in short-term training scholarships and resources for schools to cover the history of the raids.
