Ghahraman was charged in January following a shoplifting investigation which found she had stolen around $8367 worth of clothing from three shops. She pleaded guilty to all charges in March and appeared at the Auckland District Court on Monday for sentencing.

At the start of the hearing, Judge June Jelas allowed Ghahraman to sit in the public gallery as she said she wouldn’t be receiving a custodial sentence. The former MP and criminal barrister sat with her head down for most of the hearing.
