Moscow is off the travel menu for New Plymouth mayor Neil Holdom after his name was added to a burgeoning list of New Zealanders now banned from entering Russia.

Holdom found out at the weekend that he had been included in a list released by the Russian foreign ministry detailing the latest people excluded from entering its borders.

Just why or what he had allegedly done to upset those associated with the Kremlin remained a mystery to the third-term mayor.

“Shortly after the conflict started I did attend a function in support of Ukraine and we did fly the Ukraine flag outside council, so I wonder if one of the Kremlin operatives in New Plymouth had clocked that and fed it back to the mother ship,” he said.

Holdom confirmed the ban had not meant any changes to future travel plans to Eastern Europe.
