The Government’s income tax changes will be legislated before Christmas and will come into force on April 1 next year.
Labour campaigned on creating a new tax bracket for income earned over $180,000. The party proposed to tax income earned above $180,000 at 39 per cent.

Oh, for the good old days when Australia was government debt-free.
The point here isn’t to argue whether Jeff Bezos should or shouldn’t pay more tax. The point is that Congress’s approach is entirely wrong. They should instead invest their energy into ensuring maximum productivity… which ultimately means fewer regulations, and in general staying out of the way.
This is the opposite of what they should be doing. And instead of figuring out how to live within their means, they just demand more resources… even though it never works. Britain tried its 98 per cent tax experiment in the 1970s and spent a decade regretting it.
National’s political ship needs to sail with the winds (voters), not against them. There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge between now and the election but the implementation of voters’ wishes will ensure smoother sailing in calmer waters.

New Zealand deserves better than a media class that holds everyone to account except its own members. The cover-up lasted nearly a year. The damage to their credibility will last much longer.
The current coalition retains the advantage on the only question that matters under MMP – who can actually form a government. The left still has significant work to do to become a credible alternative.
