Fake News Media Lies about ‘Misinformation’

Pause for a moment to consider the hilarity of the mainstream media complaining about “misinformation”.

This is, after all, an industry that has made misinformation, indeed flat-out lies, its stock-in-trade. And they have the cheek to accuse Kiwis of “believing misinformation”.

Worse, even while they’re accusing others of “misinformation”, the mainstream media are openly lying.

Half of all Kiwis believe in at least one piece of widely debunked misinformation, a new survey has found.

And that might be because many of us are more likely to trust information we get from friends and family than the news media.

Gee, I wonder why?

And do tell, Fake News Media, what might this “widely debunked misinformation” be?

About a quarter of New Zealanders believe the virus behind COVID-19 was created in a lab, despite no evidence this is the case, and a similar number think its dangers have been exaggerated, despite millions of deaths.

“No evidence”? That is a blatant lie.

There is plenty of evidence. Much of it circumstantial, to be sure, and none of it conclusive. Nonetheless, evidence it is – and it’s perfectly reasonable to believe it. As, in fact, a great many of even the mainstream media suddenly do.

As for COVID dangers being exaggerated – again, this is a perfectly reasonable belief, given that we now know that nearly all of the people who catch the virus will recover, often without even showing symptoms. Given we also know that even in “ravaged” countries like Britain and Sweden there was barely a blip in excess deaths and sometimes even a drop, the media and political hysterics clearly do not match the facts.

So, that’s score two for ordinary Kiwis against media lies.

What else have they got?

About 5 percent of Kiwis don’t think vaccines work and/or are unsafe, despite hundreds of millions of doses of COVID-19 jabs being administered so far with few serious side effects reported. Eight percent said they believe the pandemic is being used to “force” people to get vaccinated, despite it not being compulsory for anyone (unless they want to work on the border).

Firstly, note how small these numbers are? Out of one hundred New Zealanders, just five doubt the vaccines. Worse, “few serious side effects reported” is simply a lie. Serious side effects have been reported – not in alarming numbers, perhaps, but that doesn’t excuse lying about it.

It is also a fact that people are being forced to get vaccinated. Whether it’s being told, “no jab, no job”, or governments embracing “vaccine passports” for even something as simple as going shopping or to the pub. Even entertainers are forcing their audiences to be vaccinated, or be shown the door.

So that’s four lies from the MSM and counting.

Even when they can point to the really nutty stuff, like 5G conspiracies, the numbers are so small – as low as 3% – that it is clear that the media are beating up a whole lotta nothing much at all.

Having lied and lied again, of course the media turn to racism, sexism and ageism, blaming “middle-aged white dudes”.

One of the few grains of truth in this whole mish-mash of lies and bullshit is, one suspects, unintentionally ironic.

“The impact of false or misleading information is felt heavily on our social and political relations,” said Jagadish Thaker, Massey University senior communications lecturer. “Misinformation plays mischief with our trust in social and political institutions, ruins personal relationships, casts barriers for social cohesion, and leads us to make poor choices.”
