Nothing prepares you for coming face to face with the names and faces of the Holocaust.

I have stood at Dachau, outside Munich. I have walked Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. I did not expect to feel it again in Auckland.

I did.

Auschwitz. Now. – the Holocaust and Antisemitism Foundation’s exhibition in the CBD – is beautiful and devastating. You need to experience it. I think it will change you. It changed me.

We need reminding not of dates and shocking statistics, but of individuals. Their faces. Their stories. Then the horror of multiplying those stories by six million.

We need to understand what we are capable of. The unbelievably monstrous evil. And the courage. And the humanity that somehow survived inside it.

Just go. You will not regret it.
