Our recent discussions about language being twisted to suit the left’s agenda have turned out to be very pertinent as this week two men got their tits in a tangle over a simple nickname.
Before we have a look at what they are offended about (and the 100% incorrect conclusion that they have jumped to) let’s first have a look at some common nicknames. You will notice that quite a few of my examples end with a ‘y‘or an ‘i‘
Men’s nicknames
- Dexter becomes Dex
- Samuel becomes Sam, Sami, Sammie or Sammy
- Abraham becomes Ab, Abe, Abey, Abie, Abram, Brahm, Bram.
- Albert becomes Bertie
- Elliot/ Elijah becomes Eli
- William becomes Will, Willy, Bill, and Billy. (A common Irish form is Liam).
- Nathan becomes Nate
- Rafferty becomes Rafe
- Edward / Edmund becomes Ned
- Ashley becomes Ash
- Callum / Calvin becomes Cal
- Cameron becomes Cam
Women’s nicknames
- Beatrice becomes Bea
- Edith becomes Edie
- Agatha becomes Aggie, Ag, Aggy, Aggi, Aggie
- Dorothy becomes Dot
- Emmeline becomes Emme, Emmy, Emmi and Emmie.
- Katherine /Kathleen becomes Kitty, Kate, Kath, Cath, Cate, Cat, Kathy, Kathie, Kathi, Katie, Katey, Katy, Kay, Kat, Katya, Katyusha, Kati, Kit, Kitty, Kasia, Cathy
- Charlotte becomes Charlie, Charr, Charley, Lola, Lotta, Lottie, Lotte, Char, Charl, Harlie, Harlo, Chaz, Carlota, Carlott
- Eleanor / Penelope becomes Nell or Nellie
- Theresa /Esther becomes Tess
- Isabelle / Isabella becomes Izzy
- Golriz becomes Golly, Golli, Golrizee or Rizza
You may have guessed by now that the two highly offended men are upset at the nickname Golly.
First, there is Sam McDonald who was so offended by the nickname that he made a formal complaint to the law society.
Then there is Nick Stone who also chose to be offended by a harmless nickname and slandered Whaleoil in the process.
Have these two men never heard the common phrase Golly Gee?
Golly G is the nickname Whaleoil gave Golriz as her surname is Ghahraman. Golly G is a humorous reference to the common phrase Golly Gee. Only a really sick person who looks for racism everywhere would jump to the conclusion that it is a racist term. It is a short version of her name, nothing more and nothing less and Sam and Nick need to get over themselves.
The ultimate irony is that both Sam and Nick are nicknames. Should we get offended on Nicholas’ behalf? If we call him Nick is that a reference to stealing things?
