There have been constant rumours of Jacinda Ardern resigning and disappearing off to some sinecure position at the UN, or more likely with her World Economic Forum pals with whom she has been hobnobbing at various conferences.
When politicians start doing soft, fluffy PR interviews then you know something is up, and we are being conditioned for a particular outcome. It is very interesting to see Grant Robertson emulating his leader and doing soft media interviews where they get to politely deny interest in the position of leader. The opposite is invariably true.
Grant Robertson has spoken to a British magazine about New Zealand’s achievements in LGBT+ rights and responded to questions over whether he wants to be Aotearoa’s first openly gay Prime Minister.
During an interview with Attitude, a British gay lifestyle magazine, the current deputy Prime Minister was asked if he had any response to the statement, “You could be the first out gay Prime Minister of New Zealand”.
Robertson, who entered into a civil union with his partner in 2009, responded by noting that he has previously campaigned to be the leader of the Labour Party.
“With Jacinda, I have no desire to… she’s brilliant, and I want to keep supporting her,” he’s quoted by the magazine as saying.
“But [being gay] is part of who I am: it’s helped me understand what marginalisation and discrimination is. I haven’t experienced as much of that as people of colour may have, or trans people, but it’s given me some understanding.
“What’s important, when thinking who might lead the country, is what they will do for all people, and especially those who get left out of the system.”
Pushed on whether he would be open to being Prime Minister, Robertson said, “It’s not on the cards.
“But as I say, I put myself forward for it previously. Jacinda’s doing a great job and it’s my job to support her. That’s what a deputy does!”

Ahhh, yes, but that all changes if Jacinda Ardern starts to realise her goose is cooked and decides to bail. This is why Grant Robertson is starting the PR campaign early, so he can smoothly transition into the role of Prime Minister.
I am pretty sure NZ doesn’t have a no poofters rule, like the University of Woolloomooloo.
But I’m pretty sure we aren’t ready to elect a guy that looks and sounds like he is a cardy-wearing civil servant straight off the set of Gliding On.

But seriously, the last thing this country needs is that arrogant, fat, commie bastard anywhere near the PM’s chair. His sexual preference is irrelevant, it’s every other prominent characteristic of the man that concerns me.
His constant denials that his profligate spending has caused rampant inflation is of particular concern.
Labour are so shameless, and they’d certainly want to do a short transition to Robbo as PM, just so they can say he was the first. But of course, they’ll have to describe him as the “first openly gay PM”, because Michael Joseph Savage was almost certainly the first gay PM of New Zealand.
They’ve done that before, after Jenny Shipley became the first woman Prime Minister; then when Helen Clark became Prime Minister they adopted the rather silly and petulant moniker of “first elected woman Prime Minister”.
Labour never does anything other than grandstand, and this will certainly be to the fore in their myopic thinking.
