I am a New Zealander who has been living in Japan for the last ten years. I have noticed New Zealanders being advised to prepare for another pandemic. Here in Japan we handled the last pandemic extremely well by not panicking and not closing businesses or mandating vaccines or even mandating masks.

I think the damage done to New Zealand’s mental health, economy and general well-being by the terrible reaction to what was just a bad ’flu is the biggest and saddest disaster to ever strike New Zealand.

In Japan, doctors can advise people as they see fit. My wife was a nurse in a hospital in 2020 and 2021 and the doctors in her hospital advised us to keep our immune systems strong with Vitamin D and to not take the hastily prepared vaccine as they weren’t going to take it.

In Japan, despite having the oldest population in the world and twenty-six times the population density of New Zealand we had no actual lockdowns and the schools were only closed for a month after which Mr Abe apologised and then cancelled the school holidays so the children only lost two weeks of school.

Yet Japan only had 595 Covid deaths per million people compared to New Zealand with 1123 Covid deaths per million. These data come from Worldometers.info as of 13th April 2024.

But what is so much worse is the damage New Zealand has done to a generation of children and young people’s mental health.

Please be very very careful when you create stress by scaring very fragile people into taking a vaccine that many, if not now most, would say is at least ineffective and possibly somewhat dangerous. Especially when you well know there are plenty of safer and effective ways to improve the immune system.

My wife’s friend was a nurse in the main Covid ward in the main Covid hospital and, yes, as you probably know they were pumping hydroxychloroquine and then later Ivermectin into the patients early with a few other drugs. And this is partially why Japan has such a low Covid death toll.
