A couple of decades ago, Germany tried the ‘experiment’ of housing homeless children with paedophiles. It worked about as well as most German social experiments and exactly as anyone who isn’t a government bureaucrat could have predicted.
It appears, though, that Germany’s neighbour and partner is disastrous social experiments, Austria, didn’t learn. Or, maybe, certain Austrians did learn and decided they wanted in on the action.
I mean, what can you say, when the bloke running a facility aimed at troubled “children and adolescents from the age of six years to the age of majority”, who has a tattooed face, massive ear plugs and literal devil horns, but… hmm, that bloke seems a bit suss… If you think I’m making that up, especially the bit about the devil horns, here’s the photo he actually puts up as his professional profile pic.

Now, imagine this weirdo being put in charge of children severely traumatised from sexual abuse. Worse, imagine him bashing on a terrified child’s bedroom door, demanding to be let in or he’ll force his way in.
And, no, I’m not making any of that up.
12-year-old Petra is in a care facility, severely traumatized after multiple sexual abuses. She has an extreme fear of men: at the beginning of therapy, when she saw a man, she wet herself in fear.
Because the previous facility was closed, the child was supposed to go to the Viennese organization Homebase. Caregivers from the previous place clearly recommended zero stress and exclusively female caregivers.
Instead she got… that… thing…
The director and "diversity manager" of the new facility, Gawain Walter—a tattooed individual with a mohawk, tattoos on his face, holes in his ears, and implants in the form of devil's horns on his forehead—ignored these recommendations, citing staffing shortages. He showed up in person and began banging on Petra's door. He issued an ultimatum: either she opens it for him, or he'll force his way in.
The girl jumped out the window onto the concrete, screaming: "I'd rather die than go with him." She sustained serious injuries, including multiple limb fractures and internal injuries. Doctors say she survived by a miracle.
Homebase received over 386,000 euros in public funds in the same month. The Youth Office overseeing the organization stated that no misconduct occurred.
Again, if you think this is all some sort of right-wing fever-dream, it’s all documented by Austria’s largest newspaper, the Kronen Zeitung. The paper quotes a whistleblower, extensive daily logs and answers to inquiries to the city of Vienna. But no answers from the devil-horn wearing ‘childcare’ manager.
Homebase did not want to answer the questions of the [Kronen Zeitung] – two requests for comments were ignored. The educational super-GAU behind the desperation act is not so easy to contain. The office of the responsible Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling (Neos): “The supervision of the MA 11 examined the incident and made sure that it was professionally processed. No technical misconduct of the carrier Homebase was found in this process.”
As paper dryly notes:
How picking up a severely traumatized child by a man with devilish charisma can be “professional”, the authority will still have to explain.
Just purely coincidentally, no doubt, the father of the facility’s managing director works as a personnel representative at the government authority that commissions and finances it.
No word on whether he wears Satanic fetish gear to the office, too.
