I’m Safe, Thanks for Asking!

Aucklanders are declaring themselves“safe” on a Facebook post labelled “The Auckland Region Flooding”.

I appreciate those who asked if I was safe during the Auckland flooding but have zero tolerance for social media safety flag waving because it aligns too closely with the unsolicited Facebook declarations of “I’m vaccinated” accompanied by stickers and images. Both have the unpleasant stench of “safety” used to force compliance with edicts that don’t make sense.

For instance, does a physical intervention such as hand washing or masking interrupt or slow down the spread of respiratory viruses? The jury is still out, but three years after they were introduced a study released this week has no compelling scientific evidence that mass compliance to physical interventions actually stops Covid.

There is uncertainty about the effects of face masks. The low to moderate certainty of evidence means our confidence in the effect estimate is limited, and that the true effect may be different from the observed estimate of the effect. The pooled results of RCTs did not show a clear reduction in respiratory viral infection with the use of medical/surgical masks. There were no clear differences between the use of medical/surgical masks compared with N95/P2 respirators in healthcare workers when used in routine care to reduce respiratory viral infection.

Hand hygiene is likely to modestly reduce the burden of respiratory illness, and although this effect was also present when ILI and laboratory confirmed influenza were analysed separately, it was not found to be a significant difference for the latter two outcomes. Harms associated with physical interventions were under investigated.

There is a need for large, well designed RCTs addressing the effectiveness of many of these interventions in multiple settings and populations, as well as the impact of adherence on effectiveness, especially in those most at risk of ARIs.

What do we know about deaths during the Auckland floods? Homeless people in the wrong place? Druggies out of their minds and oblivious to the weather? Thrill seekers stupidly venturing out to play chicken with raging, rising floodwaters? Conversely, were they good, caring people who died putting themselves at risk to save others?

Similar to the lack of attention to detail from authorities and media to the scientific analysis of hand washing, masking and vaccination government mandates and advice, government and media charge on regardless with “Nothing to see here”.

We were fed a daily diet of propaganda from the podium: “Without the vaccine we will die from Covid” taking precedence over early risk benefit analysis and ensuring a high vaccination rate of 90.2% of eligible 12+ years olds.

Would the same people who bragged about being vaccinated on Facebook be offended today if I declared myself “safe” from the unwelcome effects of Covid jabs containing mRNA, toxic nanoparticles and other unknown ingredients?

Despite the risk of hospitalisation from Covid infection being less than the risk of adverse reactions to the vaccine would other vaccine free people also declare themselves “safe” from future health issues too?

Of course not. A more likely response is puzzled faces and “Whaddya mean?” comments to which I might reply “I dodged a bullet and have less worry about the old ticker being compromised when I least expect it.”

A more predicable response would be “How dare you criticise the faithful Covidians keeping granny safe!” Except they didn’t, did they? Granny wasn’t protected and neither were the earnest Covidians who now have large black clouds hanging over their future health.

This week Dr John Campbell looked at data from the UK NIH showing a massive shift in vaccine risk/benefit. The number of people required to be vaccinated to save one person from hospitalisation with Covid is 43,600 people.

Known adverse reactions to the vaccine include myocarditis, pericarditis, autoimmune disease, stroke, thrombocytopenia and a dodgy immune system that might fail to protect us from repeated Covid infections and the recurrence of past diseases including cancer.

The MSM is no more interested in the aftermath of the extensive Covid vaccination programme than it is in the circumstances around the Auckland flooding victims and the public is either too stupid, too fearful or too embarrassed to notice.

We are a nation of fearful idiots consumed with “safety”.

Has anyone noticed an outbreak of sewerage-borne diseases such as gastroenteritis, botulism or typhoid in Auckland? Has the MSM enquired about the health risks of people immersed in floodwaters? I didn’t think so. Waving the safety flag beats fact-checking any day.

Every day of our lives we make decisions stemming from the values we hold dear and the risks we believe acceptable to uphold them.

One thing is for sure: constant bashing from the government and media has damaged our resilience and made New Zealanders softer and more risk-averse which is reflected in the ridiculous social media safety flag waving.
