The Ruapehu District community fears losing their employment and even their towns if the manufacturing employers close those factories and move them to another country offering more competitive electric prices. 

It is hard to believe we, as a nation, are more than 80 per cent already at renewable electricity generation.

Still, we cannot without a fight make up the seasonal power shortage by using coal-fired generation plants. 

Between you and me I favour the new generation of the Rolls Royce small nuclear plants.
