Jordan Peterson Has Had Enough of ‘Welcome to Country’, Too

It hasn’t taken Jordan Peterson long to upset the self-righteous and censorious, on his current visit to Australia. Like all of us who’ve taken a plane flight lately, Peterson found himself enduring the fatuous drivel of an in-flight “welcome to country”. Unlike the rest of us, the good doctor chose not to merely silently groan to himself.

Instead, he took to his newly-freed Twitter account to reprimand Qantas for its “corporate propaganda”.

The Canadian, 60, is currently embarking on a speaking tour of Australia and touched down in Perth on Monday.

‘I could really do without the land acknowledgment propaganda delivered to me by a corporate behemoth @Qantas,’ he posted.

‘I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. Stick to (1) flying and (2) making money.

‘I don’t want or need moral lessons from you or any other corporation.’

Of course, the bien pensant Twitter left — who, despite their avowed intention to do so, somehow haven’t actually quit the platform en masse — were literally shaking.

The post sparked a flurry of angry tweets with many Australians firing back at Dr Peterson for not respecting the custom.

“Custom”. Sure. It’s a “custom” in the same way as Kwanzaa: made up out of thin air in the 70s, and browbeaten at us by corporate HR types and government-funded bureaucrats. Of course the left eat it up like ice cream.

Another said: ‘With the greatest respect, this issue is way beyond your domain of competence. Recognition of Traditional Owners is a practice widely accepted across the Australian political spectrum.’

No, it isn’t. It’s a practice endured across the political spectrum.

Acknowledgement of Country announcements, along with Welcome to Country announcements at events, are now a common custom throughout all levels of Australian society, including government.

Qantas, along with many other major Australian companies, have a firm policy in place to acknowledge and celebrate Indigenous culture.

Does that include the whole “woman bashing” thing? Or do they just pick and choose the pretendy bits of “culture” that pander to their egos?

I mean, what does this trite crap even mean?

‘We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work, live and fly. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.’

Daily Mail

Like most leftist liturgies, it’s a hollow, meaningless conglomeration of mush, designed to do nothing else but give hollow people a warm glow inside. “Look at me,” it’s saying. “Look at what a good person I am. I care.”

But how, for instance, do we fly on the land? What does “emerging Elders” even mean? Are they just Youngers, right now? Or do the moralising narcissists who parrot this rubbish somehow think they can project their earnest insincerity into the future?

Notoriously, Qantas infuriates its customers by continually cancelling flights without notice and losing people’s baggage. You know: screwing up all the things an airline is supposed to do.

But, hey, they’re celebrating indigenous culture. Doesn’t that give you a nice, warm glow, while you’re trying to book emergency accommodation at your own expense, because Qantas has cancelled yet another flight?
