Whether it’s the home invasions or the machete rampages in suburban shopping malls, there’s always something happening in Melbourne!
Well, you have to laugh, or you’d just cry at what’s happening to the city. But it’s hard to laugh when the most horrific crimes claim good people.
A grocery store owner from Melbourne’s west has died days after allegedly being bashed by a group of teenagers.
Van Viet Truong, 60, was hailed as a hero after police said he came to the aid of a fellow retail worker in Sunshine after five youths tried to rob a store near his own shop on Saturday afternoon.
In keeping with Coulter’s Law, when the murderous thugs are described merely as ‘youths’, you don’t have to ask ‘of what particular description’.
Those close to him described him as “a very friendly and lovely man” and a “hero” who always offered his customers great service in his store.

Video shows the man being searched and arrested, but he was then released by police and spotted back at the scene just two hours later by shopkeepers who pointed him out to 9News.
Frankly, I’m astonished.
Astonished, that is, that police actually showed up and arrested anyone.
The same man is accused of taking part in a violent brawl days earlier in the same Footscray street. Deli owner Richard Le suffered a broken hand after being hit with a nailed plank of wood while trying to protect an elderly man and a crying young woman from two fighting men. One of the attackers threw a stool; the other swung the plank. Le intervened because he thought someone was about to be seriously hurt. He was right: he came out of it with a smashed hand and a grim reminder that the justice system would shrug.
Local African community activist Dr Berhan Ahmed’s response was pure script: more arrests won’t solve anything. “Police are taking these guys and putting them in prison for one week, one month, whatever, they come back, so these people need help.” The only help they need is a firm shove up the boarding ramp to the next flight back to the Third World shitholes they crawled out of.
Meanwhile, they don’t call the precinct “Little Africa” for nothing. It’s Somalia with a Yarra view.
A 25-year-old man from South Yarra was fatally stabbed behind the Courthouse Hotel on Sunday night after a dispute inside the pub spilled into a laneway. Diners at nearby restaurants watched the violence erupt metres away. A 37-year-old from Williamstown was arrested the next day. Residents say they no longer feel safe walking at night. This is the same stretch where photographer Dominic O’Brien was stomped to death last year by a released Zimbabwean immigration detainee, where police shot dead a Somalian man charging them with a knife and where African gangs have previously clashed with blades drawn.
It’s not just Melbourne that is feeling the diversity.
One of Sydney’s worst rapists has been sentenced to decades behind bars after he lured and assaulted young women in a string of horrific crimes in the city’s CBD.
Balesh Dhankhar sat in the docks and showed no emotion as he was sentenced to 40 years in jail, with a non-parole period of 30 years, in the Downing Centre District Court on Friday.
The predator was found guilty by a District Court jury of each of the 39 charges against him in April 2023 relating to the sexual assaults, drugging and intimate recording of five young women aged between 21 and 27.
Turns out he was one of the Multicult’s beloved ‘skilled migrants’.
Justice Michael King SC told the court how the former IT consultant lured five young South Korean women through the false promise of employment before drugging and sexually assaulting them.
Dhankhar created a Gumtree advertisement for a fake translation job in which he organised job interviews with South Korean women who were staying in Sydney on working holiday Visas.
He certainly put his IT skills to use.
Dhankhar kept a sickening excel spreadsheet in which he rated each applicant of his fake job advertisement based on looks, vulnerability and intelligence.
Among some of the notes he took were descriptions such as “good target”, “very cute and young”, “fat and ugly” and “no boyfriend”.
He showed no remorse beyond mild regret for the lying. Another gift from the open-door experiment.
Back in Melbourne, Van Viet Truong spent nearly 30 years serving his community. His reward was a fatal bashing by ‘youths’. The rest of us get the daily reminder that kindness, hard work and basic civic courage are increasingly one-way streets in the new Australia.

Four of the five thugs have been bailed. Because of course they have.

The eldest boy is accused of dragging the shopkeeper down to the ground, causing a “cracking sound” when his head hit the pavement, the prosecutor said.
The boy and others allegedly repeatedly struck Mr Troung while he was down, with a witness reported seeing the shopkeeper “changing colours and not moving” and “bubbling” sounds heard coming from his mouth.
The alleged attack continued for several minutes as witnesses “begged” for them to stop before one of the youths yelled “run, run” and they fled, the court was told.
And then they went for Maccas. I’m not making that up.
