Nurses for Freedom

We had planned on a huge party to celebrate the end of the traffic light settings, health mandates and the lowering of mask restrictions.  Instead, we find ourselves bemused and concerned at how many still believe the information coming from the ‘podium of truth.’

It is clear the government narrative is crumbling but they still persist in manipulation and control by continuing to propagate a two-tier society with regard to masks and vaccines and dumping responsibility once again on indoctrinated employers.  They continue with the mass psychosis we have become familiar with, this time spinning the ‘we need certainty’ message they hope will win back voters.

Here at NFFNZ we have been campaigning for the health mandates to be dropped AND for unvaccinated nurses (and other health care workers) to be able to return to work in ALL settings.

Although we await final confirmation from Nursing Council and the MOH, early indications are that whilst the government has carefully washed its hands of the unnecessary mandates little else has changed as unvaccinated public health workers may not be allowed back into some settings unless they are vaccinated.

WE NEED TO MAKE IT CLEAR THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE NOW, AND WHILST THERE IS STILL TIME!!

This pandemic is over. We all heard it during yesterday’s announcement. What is not over is the risk to public safety due to unsafe staffing levels and continued poor access to health services. Our nurses and other health workers can help mitigate this risk given the chance.

We congratulate those employers who have seen through the rhetoric and have already contacted nurses and carers inviting them back to work. Let’s hope commonsense prevails for everyone, including Health NZ.

Please take every opportunity you can to represent our nurses, doctors, carers, midwives, non-clinical staff and anyone else affected by mandates with local MP’s, DHB’s, on social media, talkback radio etc.  Time is critical if we are to affect change in the next two weeks and make sure we get back what was taken from us.

Keep holding the line.
