For the past 18 months, weak and ineffectual Labor governments, federal and state, have abetted grotesque and violent anti-Semitism. From the moment a Muslim mob was allowed to storm the Sydney Opera House, chanting “Gas the Jews” without being touched, the message was clear: Labor has your back. Sure, they might wring their hands and (occasionally) talk a big game on anti-Semitism (with the inevitable, ‘…and Islamophobia’ attached), but when push comes to shove, Labor invariably shows its true colours.
Case in point:
Education Minister Jason Clare “stands ready” to reform the school curriculum so children are taught more about anti-Semitism, declaring there was a role for teachers in educating young people about the “poison” of bigotry towards Jews […]
The West Australian government on Monday backed a fresh national cabinet meeting on anti-Semitism, although the need for this was played down by the NSW government.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan left the door open to backing a national cabinet meeting while Queensland Premier David Crisafulli said “state governments must stand shoulder to shoulder with the commonwealth against anti-Semitism”.
Yet, at the same time:
West Australian Premier Roger Cook has told five rogue Labor state MPs who joined an event organised by a Greens pro-Palestine campaigner to focus on the government’s priorities amid the signs of tension in the government’s swollen backbenches.
Let’s ditch the ‘pro-Palestine’ bullshit, for a start: even ‘anti-Israel’ is a euphemistic stretch. Call it what it is: anti-Semitism. After all, where do these creeps show the slightest concern about any other, far more deadly for civilians, war on the face of the planet? Where are the ‘pro-Syria’ marches? The parliamentary meetings on the Sudanese civil war? MPs blatherskiting about the horrific violence in the Congo?
The fact that, of all the conflicts in the world, the one Labor and the Greens are hyper-focused on is the only one involving Jews tells us all we need to know.
Liberal senator from WA and coalition foreign affairs frontbencher Michaelia Cash said that while no one wanted to see innocent civilians suffer, the situation in Gaza “is one for which, overwhelmingly, the terrorist organisation Hamas is morally responsible”.
“It is disappointing that [Labor powerbroker Dave Kelly] seems to have forgotten to condemn Hamas, the terrorist group who started this war when they massacred 1200 civilians in cold blood, who use the people of Gaza as human shields,” she said.
He hasn’t “forgotten”: he just doesn’t care. The overweening ‘moral compass’ for these people is the destruction of the Jewish state. Labor has to own that before anyone can take it seriously on tackling anti-Semitism.
Mr Clare’s comments come as [Special Envoy to Combat Anti-Semitism, Jillian Segal] and former prime minister Tony Abbott called for a crackdown on anti-Israel protests and former Department of Home Affairs secretary Michael Pezzullo called for an Operation Sovereign Borders-style taskforce to prevent terror attacks against Jews.
Mr Abbott accused Labor of failing to take anti-Semitism seriously enough after the October 7, 2023, terror attack in Israel.
“The only way to show seriousness now would be to ban the pro-Hamas marches and use the police to break them up like the anti-lockdown protests were broken up,” Mr Abbott said.
To be fair, Jason Clare, as always the best of a Labor woeful bunch, seems pretty genuine. The trouble is, he’s a small voice in a Labor government dominated by a rabidly anti-Israel team of Anthony Albanese and Penny Wong.
Mr Clare said the government was also providing funding to expand social cohesion programs in schools while establishing the National Holocaust Education Centre in Canberra.
He acknowledged, however, that there was more to be done.
And that’s just it: the Albanese government just doesn’t want to do anything.
Segal [said…] “Condemnation is not enough. We urgently need stronger policing and laws that name this hate for what it is, and punish it accordingly.”
But that would mean punishing Labor’s core constituency.
Mr Pezzullo said it was “imperative” the Albanese government get ahead of a potential terror attack by setting up a taskforce with members of ASIO and federal and state police.
He said the taskforce make-up should mimic Operation Sovereign Borders, set up by the Abbott government to stop illegal boat arrivals.
Don’t hold your breath.
