Left Turn on Machado in Record Time

How dare she thank the Bad Orange Man!

María Corina Machado has fought a brutal socialist dictatorship (apologies for the tautology). The Good Oil. Photoshop by Lushington Brady.

Ah, how fickle blow the winds of the left. As Krusty the Clown says, “One day, you’re the most important guy that ever lived. The next, you’re just some schmo working in a box factory.” Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado is finding out just how fast the left will put you up against the wall of the box factory if you say the ‘wrong’ thing.

For a brief day, María Corina Machado was the most important person who ever lived. After all, she ‘stopped’ the Bad Orange Man from getting a Nobel Peace Prize. Now, the left are turning on her.

We’ll get to that soon, but first, the idea that Machado somehow stymied Trump is ridiculous. Nominations for the Prize close on 31 January. If Trump is to win one for the Gaza peace deal, then he couldn’t possibly be in the running until next year.

Besides, unlike far too many recent recipients, Machado won for good reason.

The 58-year-old industrial engineer, nicknamed by journalists and commentators as Venezuela’s “Iron Lady,” has led the opposition to the country’s authoritarian President Nicolás Maduro, whose last two electoral victories have not been recognized by a number of countries, including the US. In the country’s 2024 election, Machado emerged as the opposition’s central figure despite being formally barred from running for public office.

After winning the opposition’s 2023 primary with an overwhelming 92 per cent of the vote, she was disqualified by the government’s comptroller, which accused her of administrative irregularities and barred her from holding public office for 15 years. When the ban was upheld, Machado named historian Corina Yoris as her stand-in candidate – a move widely seen as a protest against Maduro’s tightening control over Venezuela’s electoral system. In recent years, Machado has been forced into hiding to protect her safety.

Note, though, that Machado is a dedicated opponent of the left’s long-time poster boy for socialism: the Chavez-Maduro regime. The left were so in love with the regime that a laundry list of Australian lefty-luvvies penned an open letter, begging Hugo Chavez to come to Australia to advance the cause of socialism.

So Machado was already a troublesome figure for the left. The r/socialism forum on Reddit denounced her as “a would-be US puppet leader who hasn’t done anything useful except be a cheerleader for Yankee-branded imperialism”. “She doesn’t deserve anything,” they screeched. “She’s an imperialist bootlicker, just another tool from the United States to keep Latin America under their boot.”

Still, the general vibe from the left seemed to be, ‘well, at least it’s not Trump’.

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado on Friday said her historic Nobel Peace Prize isn’t just a victory for her embattled nation – it’s also a tribute to President Donald Trump, whose policies have “restored democracy and freedom in the Americas.”

“I dedicated this award to the Venezuelan people and President Trump because I believe that’s absolutely fair,” Machado told the Post in an exclusive interview. “We, the Venezuelan people, are absolutely grateful to President Trump for the way he has supported democracy and freedom in the Americas.”

If that wasn’t guaranteed to make leftist heads explode violently enough, she went even further.

“We are on the threshold of victory and today more than ever we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies to achieve freedom and democracy,” she added.

That’s not cats fighting outside you’re hearing: it’s the collective screeching of a million triggered leftists.

Muslim Brotherhood front group, CAIR, immediately started hammering all the lefty trigger-buttons.

We strongly condemn the Nobel Prize committee’s unconscionable decision to award this year’s peace prize to María Corina Machado. Machado is a vocal supporter of Israels racist Likud Party and earlier this year she delivered remarks at a conference of European fascists, including Geert Wilders and Marie Le Pen, which openly called for a new Reconquista, referencing the ethnic cleansing of Spanish Muslims and Jews in the 1500s.

Note CAIR’s sleight-of-hand, here. Machado herself didn’t ‘openly call for a new Reconquista’, but CAIR cleverly slants its statement to smear her as if she did.

Leaving aside this fake news, CAIR pointing fingers about the ethnic cleansing of Jews is peak 2025 hypocrisy. Just ask the million Jews ethnically cleansed from Arab countries after 1948. Before 1948, there were nearly a million Jews living in the Arab countries of North Africa and the Middle East. Today, there are just 8000, living under brutal restrictions. The rest were violently expelled, with their property stolen by the vindictive Arabs.

But then, if the left didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have any.
