Letter to the Editor: Who Is More Dangerous?

Dear Editor

First, we need to make some assumptions, most of which are already accepted.

  1. The vaccine does not prevent you getting Covid.

2. Even if vaccinated, should you catch Covid, you can still spread it.

3. The un-vaccinated, if they catch Covid, will really feel ill and have far worse symptoms than the vaccinated.

4. Following on from 3 above – the vaccinated that may catch Covid will have far less severe symptoms and may actually not feel much at all.

A person who is un-vaccinated that catches Covid will be very aware that they are ill and will almost naturally seek to rest and possibly even spend time bed-ridden. In other words, almost involuntary self-isolation, and under the current circumstances would still self-isolate if they are halfway reasonable people.

Now for the vaccinated person that catches Covid: The symptoms will not be as severe, even to the extent of possibly not being noticed as a problem at all. These people, unintentionally, may well continue with normal life mixing with friends and the public. Again unintentionally, and most likely unknowingly, they will be spreading Covid in their local circle and community.

Who is more dangerous to the community? The un-vaccinated who will be well aware they are sick or the vaccinated, unaware how sick they are, and mixing with the public?

My pick – The vaccinated are more of a danger!

Graham Greenhorn
