When a black career criminal gobbled his stash of fentanyl in a panic and promptly dropped dead, cities burned, statues toppled and hundreds of violent riots plagued Western countries for over a year. All egged on by a hysterical media, who are still yammering about it non-stop, five years later.
When a white ex-marine heroically restrained a violent black criminal on the New York Subway, the New York Times dedicated hundreds of articles to the matter.
When, this week, a black criminal brutally murdered a Ukrainian refugee woman, without even the slightest provocation, the Times fell silent. Well, not entirely: the Times printed precisely one article on the murder, but only to frame it as unfounded hysteria from “right-wing commentator[s]”. The Times also buried the race of the murderer 900 words deep in a 1500-word article.
The Times’ sole report on the shocking murder only appeared after days of online commentary regarding the legacy media’s conspiracy of silence.
Few events of late have better exposed the ideological underpinnings of the media – and of the elite whose narratives it plugs – than the recent brutal and shocking murder of a young Ukrainian woman on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina.
On August 22, a career criminal, Decarlos Brown Jr, casually walked up behind 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who was seated on a train minding her own business, and stabbed her three times in the neck in cold blood, killing her. He sauntered away, still clutching the knife dripping blood.
The shocking and unprovoked attack was captured on surveillance footage – which the Charlotte mayor, a Democrat, strove not to have not released.
But the footage did eventually surface, and the story spread like wildfire. But this was a wildfire that couldn’t reach the impervious redoubt of the mainstream media – even after Elon Musk gave it the push into viral territory by chiming in on an End Wokeness thread pointing out the stunning media silence.
In fact, not a single major legacy outlet – the New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, Reuters, CNN, Wall Street Journal, and others – picked it up. One would think that, by sheer chance, one of these esteemed outlets would have bucked the trend.
Except that the legacy media were too busy shrieking non-stop Trump derangement. They only even cursorily addressed the killing when they were shamed into it after days of silence.
As of this writing, it seems the media herd is starting to reluctantly skate to where the puck is going. And that means that some version of the story, however sanitized, will soon appear everywhere.
That sanitised version, as shown by the Times, has been agreed-upon, and will certainly be pushed relentlessly: this is all just a ‘right-wing’ beat-up.
Zarutska’s murder certainly comes at a time of record-low American trust in the mainstream media. Instances of misreporting and factual disasters have become such a recurrent theme as to not require individual examples. The media’s efforts at narrative formation have also become so heavy-handed that identifying the establishment cause being promoted in almost any piece of reporting is now a parlor game […]
It will be said that all sides have merely assumed their positions on the barricades to score political points on this deeply human tragedy. We will all be accused of coming to praise Caesar rather than to bury him. This young woman’s death is indeed a human tragedy and a particularly painful one. But to see it as only a tragedy is to dismiss its larger context and to refuse to draw any conclusions.
There are, in fact, several obvious conclusions. The first is the media’s obvious and damaging bias when it comes to racialised crime.
Let’s start with the blatant double standard about reporting interracial crime. A white victim and a black perpetrator, as was the case in this instance, is usually a circumstance that tips the scales in favor of silence. When an instance of black-on-white crime cannot be avoided, the respective races of the individuals involved are not mentioned, and the tone is more along the lines of “aww shucks, what a tragedy.” When the racial roles are reversed, the media coverage is extensive and sensational, and the race angle is established immediately and runs throughout the ensuing coverage like an electric wire.
This blatant bias is damaging to far more than just the media’s reputation. As (black) scholar Wilfred Reilly points out, the media’s bias has constructed a completely false public perception of reality. For instance, the media have constructed a perception that “there’s an unarmed or totally innocent black man that’s murdered basically every day, and that this happens hundreds of times a year”. In fact, “the total number of unarmed black men shot typically a year is about 10”.
The media narrative that “there is bloody racial conflict in the streets with whites getting the better of it” is not just false, it’s completely, diametrically, opposite to reality.
The actual statistics on interracial crime, which are not easy to find, show otherwise. Buried inside this Department of Justice (DOJ) report from 2020 is a rather remarkable admission: “[In 2019], there were 5.3 times as many violent incidents committed by black offenders against white victims (472,570) as were committed by white offenders against black victims (89,980).”
A second obvious conclusion is that white Americans are growing increasingly fed up with being lied to and forbidden from noticing. Online, it’s known as ‘Black fatigue’: White people (and many Blacks, as well) have had enough of the bad behaviour of a violent sub-set of Blacks.
The uproar over this senseless killing also points to a deeply ensconced taboo slowly starting to unravel: Many white Americans are tired of being denied the right to display even the slightest and most tentative hint of the type of racial solidarity that other groups are extended so liberally. It is a story being played out on a different stage with different actors in Great Britain.
The only really surprising thing is that, as Douglas Murray has noted, that Britons, Americans and Australians, have been so basically decent about it all. A few quiet protests and lots of flags (and even that is enough to send the elite into pearl-clutching hysterics). If whites behaved as badly in many countries as many non-whites are in Western countries, the reaction would rightly be fury, almost certainly violent.
But the longer the legacy media and the political elite keep lying to our faces, the less likely it is that the decency will continue. The very people who prattle so endlessly about ‘social cohesion’ are doing the most to smash it to pieces.
