Good news, everybody! Covid deaths have plummeted again!
No, no — not new deaths… those have been steadily falling for months. We’re talking old deaths. You know, all those people who died “with covid” (including the gunshot and car crash victims)? In a posthumous miracle, it turns out that a great many of them weren’t killed by covid at all.
No doubt you’re already well aware of this, given that the media have been shouting the good news from the rooftops… wait, no, you wouldn’t have. The media have been too busy shrieking their heads off about Ukraine.
Which, is as turns out, is as good a time as any for public health bureaucrats to quietly let slip that they stuffed up, royally.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 966,575 deaths from COVID-19 on Friday after it corrected the data earlier this week, which reduced the death tallies in all age-groups, including children.
The health agency, in a statement to Reuters, said it made adjustments to its COVID Data Tracker’s mortality data on March 14 because its algorithm was accidentally counting deaths that were not COVID-19-related.
Just how many deaths? Um, well, just a handful. You know… 70 thousand… give or take.
The adjustment resulted in removal of 72,277 deaths previously reported across 26 states, including 416 pediatric deaths, CDC said.
The reduction cut the CDC’s estimate of deaths in children by 24% to 1,341 as of March 18.

Although the total reduction is relatively small — just under 10% — the bigger question is: what else have they screwed up?
As physician and author Nicole Saphier asks:
Americans — and much of the world — should expect to be able to rely on taxpayer-funded behemoths like the CDC to provide accurate information. Unfortunately, as covid has exposed again and again, many of them don’t seem to know their arses from their elbows. Whether it’s Professor Wrongo, Neil Ferguson, making yet more disastrously wrong predictions, or New Zealand’s cheap imitation, Shaun Hendy, spewing out ridiculously wrong, panic-mongering “computer modelling”.
Instead of coming clean publicly and loudly, the bureaucrats are waiting until a war has everyone distracted to quietly slide their corrected homework under the door. As already reported by the BFD, Ashley Bloomfield has already made the sotto voce admission that New Zealand’s death count was over-inflated.
In Britain, an Oxford University study has shown that case and death tracking was such a dog’s breakfast that the true number of covid deaths is simply un-knowable.
Now the CDC is mumbling and shuffling their feet and quietly scrubbing the data and chalking in new ones. As critics have pointed out, the CDC’s methodology is shockingly opaque.
Americans and the world are entitled to ask: if they’re admitting to stuffing up this badly already, what else have the bollixed? And will they ever come clean?
