Elon Musk has helped drive fresh attention to claims of serious COVID vaccine harm after posting that he “felt like I was dying” and nearly went to hospital after his second shot.

Musk was responding to claims by Pfizer’s former chief toxicologist, Dr Helmut Sterz, who told a German inquiry that reported deaths linked to Pfizer’s vaccine may represent only a fraction of the real toll in Germany.

Sterz said Germany’s Paul Ehrlich Institute had received 2,133 reports of death following Pfizer vaccination, but argued the true number was “much higher” because of under-reporting.

Using a US-style under-reporting factor of 30, he said that “would correspond to 60,000 deaths from the vaccination” in Germany. He also told the inquiry that Pfizer’s post-marketing data recorded 1,200 suspected deaths within just two months of approval, adding: “At that point, Comirnaty should have been withdrawn from the market.”

Sterz also claimed Pfizer skipped key safety work “due to time constraints”, including studies looking at cancer risk and the vaccine’s impact on pregnancy. He called for “proper independent safety studies” into the long-term effects of COVID vaccines and said public trust would not return “without full transparency”. Asked whether the benefits of Pfizer’s COVID vaccine outweighed the risks, Sterz said no.

According to US reporting data, 39,050 deaths followed COVID vaccination as of February 27. However, the real number may be higher because many adverse events go unreported.

Documents obtained by US Senator Ron Johnson and reviewed by scientists at Children’s Health Defense suggest American health officials knew the VAERS tool they were relying on to detect COVID vaccine safety signals was “mostly useless”.
