Newsflash: Woman Drinks Coffee

The BFD.

George

I witnessed an extraordinary event last night, a whole news hour on TV1 without one item where the PM was featured. But in Stuff yesterday morning I was confronted with the breaking news that the PM had to wait for two minutes in a queue for a coffee at some café in Wellington. Thank goodness, I was beginning to worry that she might not have been well. I also suspect her PR team will be required to explain to her why they missed an opportunity to advise the media in advance of this momentous occasion. Stuff, after being tipped off by a patron, unfortunately failed to observe this extraordinary event live but did manage to interview the café owner and other patrons who actually witnessed this groundbreaking phenomenon.

The next item I read was a sob story by Andrea Vance about journalists being so misunderstood and not being the recipients of the acknowledgement they so desperately desire by simply getting out of bed each morning and doing the job they are paid to do. Well, Andrea, if the story of the PM going out for a coffee, promoted ahead of your opinion column, is “journalism”, then the answer is staring you in the face.

You also make the comment, “Judging by social media commentary (never a wise idea), no-one is riding to our rescue”. How would you know? Could it be that you actually read social media commentary? You would know then how pathetically inadequate many journalists are. This is exposed every day at the 1.00pm news conference. The questioning there is pathetic.

Here on The BFD, I have witnessed mature, accurate and thought-provoking comments and postings that actually dig deeper for the truth, find it and then expose it. It’s not that hard really. Often it is staring you in the face. There is one thing I do agree with and that is Andrea’s concluding comment: “The industry is dying. Yes, it’s a failed business model.” Not on The BFD, it isn’t. We don’t search out our PM’s social habits, we expose our PM for the person she is. The kind of person who the MSM is blind to. If you won’t do it, then we will.
