When the Government announced that they were going to have a gun register and register all firearms, the firearms community and experts sounded the alarm: that this would create a shopping list for gangs. All our representations to the select committee and to police were met with either silence or extreme arrogance on the part of police.
Yet almost every month we hear of government data systems being breached for nefarious purposes, the latest being the NZTA database that was breached by a staff member on behalf of a gang.
