When politicians deny and say they aren’t at all interested in the leadership, they’re lying through their teeth.
Kieran McAnulty has long been rumoured to have a hankering for the Labour Party’s leadership. It’s pretty much an open secret around Wellington that when Chris Hipkins manages to secure a golden parachute then McAnulty will step up.
The fact he is denying pretty much confirms that he’s running:
We are not required to hate our own country to understand its past. And we are certainly not obliged to pretend that history ends in grievance rather than citizenship under a common law.
We do not want to spend another three decades discovering we have simply replaced one dysfunctional planning system with another.
National really needs to do something to gain some momentum. Perhaps if their election strategist focussed on the election rather than rolling his boss then things may improve.
While the rapidly changing and unprecedented fortunes of One Nation make for exciting politics, there are still plenty of opportunities for this support to dissipate.
