If you’ve ever tried to debate a leftist, you’ve no doubt learned not to bother. Because the most frustrating thing about trying to discuss the real world with the left is that they clearly don’t live in it. How many times have you quoted some fact or statistic, only to be met with a metaphorical sticking-fingers-in-the-ears and chanting ‘la-la-la-la’?
You almost can’t blame them, poor dears – because they simply don’t know any better. To be sure, we all have a more-or-less narrow view on the world, but the left’s view is so narrow that it’s a pinhole camera. And, like a pinhole camera, the resulting view is blurred, distorted and low-quality.
The tiniest pinhole that leftist pinheads peer through diligently is Australia’s billion-dollar taxpayer-funded leftist propaganda unit ‘national broadcaster’, the ABC. Not only is the ABC’s viewpoint narrower than the eye of a needle, it’s deliberately distorted by a obscuring muck of fake news.
Case in point, their ‘explainer’ of the LA illegal immigrant riots.
The extraordinary measure is the latest escalation in a tense immigration debate the nation has been grappling with since before the election.
The ‘nation’ isn’t ‘grappling’ with anything. A tiny fringe of the radical left is. The vast majority of Americans’ minds are clear and unambiguous: every illegal immigrant must be deported. Not only do a majority – over two-thirds – favour deportation of all illegal immigrants, Americans are near-unanimous (97 per cent) that violent illegals must be deported. The only holdouts are a small percentage of Democrats.
And, as we know, when Democrats lose the debate violent riots inevitably follow.
But where would we be, without the ABC to leftsplain such stunning insights as this:
It’s not uncommon for ICE to arrest people it believes are in the US illegally.
No! You mean, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, whose purpose is enforcing the country’s immigration laws, arrests illegal immigrants? Well, they do now that Joe Biden’s out of office and Kamala Harris isn’t responsible for the border.
But where would an ABC ‘explainer’ be, without blatant lies:
People who were legally living in the US have been caught up in ICE raids.
One of the more notable cases was the arrest of 238 men accused of being Venezuelan gang members, who weren’t given a day in court before they were deported to a mega-prison in El Salvador.
But those men weren’t living legally in the US. They were gang members. They didn’t get a ‘day in court’ because they weren’t entitled to it. They’re not US citizens, they’re in the country illegally: due process is deportation. End of story.
That’s not the end of the ABC’s lies, though.
Securing the border was one of Mr Trump’s key election promises.
During the presidential campaign, he argued illegal immigrants were responsible for a crime wave and described people who cross illegally into the US as “animals” who are “poisoning the blood” of the nation.
While he was able to point to a handful of high-profile crimes allegedly committed by illegal immigrants, there was no data publicly available to verify the claim.
Data from Texas, the only state that tracks crimes by immigration status, shows considerably lower felony arrest rates among people in the US illegally, compared to legal immigrants or citizens.
Note how the ABC is lying by misdirection, here? The claim is that illegal immigrants are committing crimes – often heinously violent ones. The ABC tacitly admits this is true, before throwing its gullible readers off the scent with this misdirection: considerably lower felony arrest rates among people in the US illegally. Note that this isn’t the same as committing violent crimes, though.
In fact, the reason there was a lower arrest rate was because of the ‘catch-and-release’ policy. That is, illegal immigrants were simply let go without arrest, which is completely different to ‘not committing crimes’.
The ABC is so blinded by ideology that it is apparently unaware when it’s kicking an own goal.
Mr Trump’s call to deploy the California National Guard is considered a rather historic move.
That’s because he did so without the governor’s approval – something no president has done since 1965 when President Lyndon B Johnson sent troops to protect a civil rights march in Alabama.
So, once again, the National Guard has to turn out because violent Democrats are trying to hang on to their cheap race labour. Some things never change.
