Oh, So Now Human Rights Are Important?

You’d never have known that we had a Human Rights Commissioner during the excesses of the Ardern regime. She illegally locked us up and down, illegally banned Kiwi citizens from entering their own country and illegally sacked them from jobs because of her vaccine mandates which were demonstrably against the Bill of Rights. Paul Hunt, the keffiyeh-wearing apologist for violent regimes, was utterly silent even as Police assaulted and stomped on peaceful protestors in Wellington.

Now because a few people living in a boarding house had the misfortune of having had it burn down on them, he is all of a sudden incredibly concerned about the human rights of those few people.

The Human Rights Commission is hitting out at the Government saying New Zealand has let profit become more important than providing a decent home.

It comes after Loafers Lodge went up in flames last Tuesday killing five people.

It’s not clear how many bodies still remain inside the hostel, but the final death toll is expected to be below 10.

The Human Rights Commission says housing is “critical to wellbeing” and is calling for an independent accountability body to hold governments on track for “this fundamental human right”.

“The tragic fire at Loafers Lodge highlighted just how many people are harmed by the housing crisis,” says Te Amokapua Chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt.

“We let our values deteriorate when it comes to housing. We let profit be more important than the human right to a decent home.

“Many have had no option but to live in unsafe and precarious conditions as a result.”

It is a fundamental human right, enshrined in our Bill of Rights, that people are free to choose not to undergo medical treatment. But you were silent on that.

It is a fundamental human right, enshrined in our Bill of Rights, that people are not to be subjected to torture or cruel treatment. But you were silent about MIQ.

It is a fundamental human right, enshrined in our Bill of Rights, that people have the freedom of peaceful assembly. But you were silent about the Police attacking peaceful protestors in Wellington.

It is a fundamental human right, enshrined in our Bill of Rights, that people have Freedom of movement. But you were silent on lockdowns and internal borders being created.

It is a fundamental human right, enshrined in our Bill of Rights, that people have Freedom from discrimination. But you were silent on the creation of two classes of citizens.

Do you know what is NOT in the Bill of Rights?

Housing. It isn’t in the Bill of Rights but now you are flapping your gums and describing housing as a “fundamental human right”. Are you suggesting that Sir Geoffrey Palmer got it wrong when he passed the Bill of Rights Act in 1990?

Here we have the Human Rights Commissioner, whose job is to protect the human rights of New Zealand Citizens, squawking about a human right that isn’t even mentioned in the NZ Bill of Rights Act, and who was utterly silent when rights protected by that very Act were trampled on by the Labour Government and its agents of the state including the Police and the NZ Defence Force.

You know what Paul Hunt, why don’t you just STFU.
