Dear Prime Minister
On 1 January 2021 I emailed an Open Letter to you, which was also sent to the Minister for Climate Change and also to every member of the Climate Change Commission.
The title of that Open Letter was “An Open Letter to the Prime Minister regarding the fundamental error upon which the ‘Climate Emergency’ is based, and a challenge to put up a team to debate the matter in a public forum”.

I note that as yet, no reply has been received, and the challenge to debate – contained in the letter – has been ignored. Worse, you have not put your government’s “climate emergency” agenda – which is set to cost New Zealanders, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren billions, if not trillions of dollars – on hold until this matter has been settled.
The text of the response from the Climate Change Commission’s Communications & Engagement Team was:
“Kia ora,
The Climate Change Commission bases its assessment of the causes and impacts of climate change on established peer-reviewed scientific literature, and the consensus of the world’s scientific community.
A key part of the establishment of scientific knowledge and any scientific consensus is the continual testing, refining or rejecting of hypotheses and theories based on new data and information. Indeed, this is a key strength of the IPCC process, where conclusions and scientific understanding are continually updated as new evidence is reviewed and incorporated, and the uncertainty around the conclusions is refined accordingly.
On the basis of this process, the consensus of the world’s climate scientists is that the earth is warming and humans are primarily responsible. For a range of statements of that scientific agreement, see https://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/.
The Commission is satisfied that the body of evidence of human-driven increases in global energy content is clear and unequivocal.
Nga mihi”
Note that this response completely ignored the very serious matters raised, concerning the discovery of the fundamental errors in the climate models used to prepare the IPCC’s reports.
Correcting these fundamental errors brings climate sensitivity down from 4 Celsius degrees for every doubling of atmospheric CO2 concentration, down to just 1.25 Celsius degrees for every doubling of atmospheric CO2 concentration. Therefore, by about the year 2120, when today’s atmospheric CO2 concentration of 415 ppm has doubled to 830 ppm, global mean temperatures will have increased by a mere 1.25 Celsius degrees; and several centuries later, when atmospheric CO2 concentration has doubled again to 1660 ppm – if it ever does – global mean temperatures will have increased by another mere 1.25 Celsius degrees. Note that many people say that long before we get to 1660 ppm, the world’s resources of fossil fuels will have been exhausted. Of course, many other people, including me, disagree.
Thus there is no “climate emergency” and all efforts to combat a non-existent emergency are a waste of resources and time that could be better used for reducing poverty – child poverty in particular – for example.
On 2 March 2021 I emailed Viscount Monckton of Brenchley and asked him if he had notified the IPCC of the fact that his Argonauts’ had discovered the fundamental errors in the climate models relied upon by the IPCC. His response, received the same day, was as follows:
“Dear Peter, – We submitted a request to IPCC a couple of years ago under its Error Reporting Protocol, asking it to investigate the error. Contrary to the explicit terms of the Protocol, we received no reply.”
On a separate occasion, Viscount Monckton informed me that he has been in touch with the leading Russian climate scientists, who told him that they had already found the Hansen team’s errors and had incorporated the corrections into their models. That is why the Russian climate models make reasonably accurate predictions, and why President Putin knows that the IPCC “climate emergency” claims have zero credibility.
The fact that Viscount Monckton and the Argonauts were ignored by the IPCC ought to sound alarm bells for you. The fact that the IPCC ignored its very own Error Reporting Protocol confirms, without a shadow of doubt, that the IPCC is a political organisation, not a scientific one. It has shown that it is not interested in the truth, or evidence that contradicts its dogma. New Zealand should again lead the world – this time by shunning the IPCC forthwith, and advising all other nations why we have shunned the IPCC. All nations have much better use for their resources than wasting them on fighting a non-existent so-called “climate emergency”.
It is also noteworthy that just like your own Chief Science Adviser, Professor Juliet Gerrard, the IPCC has repeatedly been asked to provide one piece – just one piece – of verifiable physical evidence that increasing atmospheric concentrations of CO2 have caused, are causing, or will cause, our planet’s mean temperature to increase catastrophically. Professor Gerrard, and the IPCC, have both repeatedly failed to provide that evidence, instead offering papers that are based on the output of computer models, which, as the Argonauts have shown, are fundamentally flawed.
Unless you promptly either refute the Argonauts’ corrections to the orthodox calculation of climate sensitivity, or “fess up” and acknowledge that the Argonauts are correct and that therefore there is no climate emergency, I believe that it is highly likely that you and your Minister for Climate Change will be hounded as climate change fraudsters by the Opposition every single day, repeatedly.
The long-established principles of the scientific method require you to either refute the Argonauts’ very significant corrections to orthodox climate models or accept them.
You have a fiduciary duty to the New Zealand people to immediately pause any government actions on your “climate emergency” – including spending any more public money – until such time as your scientists have refuted the Argonauts’ very significant corrections to orthodox climate models.
Should you choose not to do so, you and your Minister for Climate Change are at grave risk of being accused of being fraudsters and subjected to investigations by one or more of the following government agency and appointees: the Serious Fraud Office, the Auditor General, the Solicitor General – all of whom will be emailed this Open Letter.
I again challenge your Minister for Climate Change to debate the matter, as per the challenge laid down in my Open Letter dated 1 January 2021.
Eventually, the truth will set us free.
Yours faithfully
