Something very weird is happening and David Seymour has dropped the ball – if he ever truly picked it up.

Founded and was the head of Mt Hobson Middle School in Auckland for 18 years. MH Academy is now an in person private school for Years 11–13. There is now a nationwide online provision called Mt Hobson Academy Connected for Years 1–13.

Briefly:

We have four incredible charter school applications into government.

The process has been incredibly unprofessional, unfair and truly bizarre.

At present we have been told that none of our schools will go ahead. This is despite:

– having a remarkable Board.

– having been involved in beginning two private schools, two charter schools (with superb evaluations) and two designated character schools.

– having four offered properties and multi-million dollar investors.

– having roles nearing full already.

– being supported by people like Mike King, John Hattie, Dame Wendy Pye, etc, etc.

– having four very different offerings – including one directly for neurodiverse learners, where there is evidence of 60,000 students in NZ being under-served – and it being an application with huge support over four years.

– including one designed specifically to bring aspirational Māori and Pasifika learners into Auckland city to get UE and go to university.

– including a full primary in Auckland Central to serve a location with 57,000 families and no schools.

– and one with 100 students in Warkworth where people are desperate for an alternative.

Something very weird is happening and David Seymour has dropped the ball – if he ever truly picked it up.

We are fighting harder than Ali in the “Thrilla in Manilla” vs Smokin’ Joe Frazier.
