William Butler Yeats poet poetry

This is a tale of a girl called Jacinda
Whose country’s progress she seems determined to hinder
For a start not being a very bright lass
She decided to turn off the oil and also the gas

She’s leading a government who can’t think for themselves
So there’s lots of working groups like Santa’s little elves
These people meet frequently dreaming up all sorts of machinations
Before coming back with what are often obnoxious recommendations

At the election one hundred thousand houses she promised to build
Then she turned to Phil Twyford to see her promise fulfilled
Phil with unbridled arrogance said he’d make it a success
But instead he got fired for creating a diabolical mess

Transport and gridlock she can’t see what is the fuss
The answer is simply to make use of a train or a bus
If that doesn’t suit never mind whether a short or long hike
Follow Julie-Anne Genter’s example and get on a bike

In education she’s overseen some disasters
Purely at the behest of her Trade Union masters
Worst of these was the closing of all charter schools
Which proves beyond doubt they’re a party of fools

Child poverty she said would get her special attention
But increasing numbers is all that’s worthy of mention
The point has been reached where it has come to the crunch
Some kids are now starting to get a free lunch

She’s given landlords many an extra rule and regulation
Which means a predictable lessening in their participation
The result of which she seems not the least bit troubled
Numbers on the housing waiting list have doubled

Jacinda’s predilection is to lump
Many an extra tax at the pump
Has she realised that in return for her constant taxpayer goading
We’d appreciate meaningful money spent on some major roading

When it comes to finance one has to ask
Is Grant Robertson really up to the task?
Although he looks good spouting numbers in the House
He doesn’t appear to have the requisite financial nous

So from all of the above what we can deduce
Is that we have a government of no earthly use
They really haven’t a clue which side is up
Thanks a lot Winston, for one humungous pup!
