Politicians Love to Jump the Quarantine Queues

The most constant feature of the Chinese virus pandemic, aside from the lies and power-grubbing hysteria, is the utter hypocrisy of the elite.

David Clark breaking lockdown to get in a run on the beach. Prof. Neil Ferguson breaking lockdown to get into someone else’s wife. Bureaucrats shutting down the livelihoods of half the country while they remain on full pay.

Then there are the quarantine cheats.

Thousands of Australians and New Zealanders have been stranded overseas for months or longer, as the queues for quarantine stretch ever-longer.

But not everyone waits.

Thousands of people have signed a petition calling for Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to be denied an exemption to leave Australia to travel to Japan this month to secure the 2032 Olympics.

Ms Palaszczuk, who last week received her second dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in preparation for her trip later this month, has come under fire for revealing she would quarantine in a hotel after returning from Tokyo despite repeatedly calling for a reduction in hotel quarantine caps.

Once again, it’s one rule for the plebs, another for the elite.

Started by a group of stranded Australians, the thousands of signees are asking the Australian Border Force to “deny her the ability” to travel and “steal a precious quarantine space”.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk has successfully advocated for a brutal and heartless halving of Australian quarantine spaces, making it even more difficult for stranded Australians to return home,” the petition said.

This is the sort of hypocrisy with which New Zealanders are grimly familiar. Hollywood moguls and even the Wiggles are rolled out the red carpet, while ordinary New Zealanders are denied the chance to see their dying family members.

On the other hand, even obscure list MPs seem to have no trouble flitting in and out of the country and towing ‘family members’ along with them.

Greens MP Ricardo Menendez March is well in the running for the blue ribbon in bare-faced elitist chutzpah by trying not once, but twice, to jump the queue for quarantine in New Zealand by claiming “emergency” status. The first time, “El Woko Loco” claimed to be a “critical health service”. The second, to be “required for national security”. Both were knocked back before strings were pulled and the former projectionist was granted the exemption he clearly felt entitled to.

But the gold star for sheer hypocrisy must surely go to ‘Pluckachook’, whose own government wags the finger at “selfish” non-politicians travelling in and out of the country.

Ms Palaszczuk was instrumental in Australia’s hotel quarantine places being reduced by 50 per cent after numerous leaks in the system caused simultaneous outbreaks across the country[…]

“Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles recently stated: ‘Every month, about 40,000 Australian citizens and about 6000 permanent visa holders are allowed to leave the country. Many of them seek to return … re-joining the queue, going back through hotel quarantine, putting our community at risk …’
