The National Party and Labour Party have followed Act’s lead and attacked NZ First and Winston Peters in the final week of the campaign. The desperation is palpable. Now David Seymour has re-issued his threat to sit on the cross-benches and dictate what goes through the house or not.
On Monday leader David Seymour repeated his threat that if National did not agree to ACT’s top demands, the party would not form a coalition and would instead vote for every piece of legislation on a bill-by-bill basis.
“What we’re going to be doing is saying, of course, if you don’t want to work properly together, that’s okay. You will still be Prime Minister, but we’ll work more distantly, and we’ll have to work through vote by vote to do it,” he told Politik.
It would mean ACT would have a veto over every single Government bill

David Seymour continues to flail hopelessly against his dropping poll numbers. He is lashing out and proving that it might well be best if he sits out the coalition until he can control his temper.
If NZ First passes the Act Party then his negotiation position becomes really weak. Sources suggest that Act’s numbers are tanking.
It’s not really a surprise, mainly because Act peaked far too early. They should be strengthening in the final weeks, not getting weaker.
Seymour has been advised to dial back the rhetoric; not only by donors but also by advisors. Instead, he’s issued more threats.
If anyone is a destabilising effect on a Government it is now clear that David Seymour is actually a clear and present danger to that stability.
National and Act have bombed their campaigns, they are only being saved by the fact that everyone hates Labour.
It is an indictment that National isn’t polling above 40% against this dreadful government.
When the dust settles someone is going to have to sit David Seymour down, handcuff him to the chair and tell him that his campaign likely tanked after he rashly decided to attack Winston Peters.
