Seymour Is Banging on about Rights Again

For the second time in as many days David Seymour has been banging on about universal rights, trying desperately to pretend like he means it and at the same time trying to fool us into not remembering where he stood on those rights over the past few years. The man disgusts me with his hollow proselytising over universal rights.

Act leader David Seymour said New Zealand risks turning its back on centuries of enlightenment values of reason and universal human rights.

In his first big speech of the year, Seymour said that “we live under new doctrines that look like life pre-enlightenment”.

“It is more important to follow the new doctrines of privacy, health and safety, and the principles of the Treaty than it is to apply your own judgement and take responsibility for a situation,” he said.

Seymour alleged the current Government judged people by skin colour and background.

“What matters most is your skin colour or background.

“They think we are not all thinking and valuing beings. We are not all equal. We don’t have the same rights and duties. We are either the oppressors or the oppressed… And we should simply feel shame for our heritage, rather than learn from it,” Seymour said.

The remarks were made in Seymour’s Road to Real Change speech to a crowd of supporters at Princes Wharf in Auckland (a previous venue sold out in just six hours).

Everything I said about him on Monday still holds true.

David Seymour is wanting us to forget just how little he cared about universal human rights, or even our own Bill of Rights when he voted in lockstep with everything the Ardern regime did to abrogate the very rights that he supposedly now holds dear.

Where was he when forced medical procedures were visited upon us with vaccine mandates?

Where was he when police brutally smashed the universal human rights of freedom of association and freedom of speech?

We saw him then, and we see him now. He is nothing but a shabby hypocrite who only mouths his defence of universal rights. His deeds prove otherwise.

Worse, he is saying all these things and expecting that we will forget what he did and said in the past.

He is no more committed to protecting those universal human rights now than he was then when he allowed our rights to be trampled through his silence.

Matthew 7:16 says, “By their deeds you will know them. Does a man gather grapes from thorns or figs from briars?”

By David Seymour’s deeds, we know that he has scant regard for universal rights.

I’ll start listening to David Seymour when he apologises and tells us that he got it wrong. Until then we can no more trust his statements than those of any other politician.
