With President Trump certain to nominate a new Supreme Court justice, the American left’s media freikorps are facing a monumental decision. How are they going to smear and attack Trump’s nominee?
With the likely nominee looking more and more likely to be a woman, a good, old-fashioned fake sexual misconduct allegation looks like a wash. Instead, the media are already turning to older and even uglier hatchet jobs: religious bigotry.
Front-runner for the nomination is Amy Coney Barrett. It goes without saying that anyone nominated by the Bad Orange Man must be a monster, but Barrett is almost everything the left fear and despise: an intelligent conservative woman (a real woman, mind you, not some hairy bloke in a dress), a mother of seven and – gasp! – white. Even more horrifying, she is a Catholic conservative.
As we all know patriarchal religions are A-OK with the left – just so long as they’re not Christian.
Cue the fake news smear-jobs.
Monday, Newsweek ran an article all about how Amy Coney Barrett is a member of a Charismatic Catholic Group “People of Praise” which inspired the leftist dystopian novel ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood.
In case you’ve been lucky enough not to read Atwood’s tiresome feminist taradiddle, it’s a risible attempt at a dystopia that posits a near-future America run by cartoon-villain Christian hardliners who subjugate the few remaining fertile women for breeding purposes. It’s the literary equivalent of one of those flappy-armed, cat’s piss-reeking landwhales who imploringly defy men to grab their pussy.
Naturally, it’s been a massive hit with “progressive” types.
There was only one tiny mistake with Newsweek’s hatchet-job, though.
Probably not important enough to mention. But they did run a correction just in case it matters[…]
There was just the teeny tiny problem that the original headline and entire premise for the story was completely and totally incorrect and false.
As their correction noted, not only has Atwood “never specifically mentioned the group”, she has explicitly named a completely different group as “part of her research”.
It looks like Newsweek has decided the story was “factually incorrect but morally true” as AOC might say. Newsweek has left the story up because, even if this particular group didn’t inspire the Handmaid’s Tale it’s similar and also believes radical conservative ideas, for instance:
“The covenant community… emphasizes direct personal experience of God through baptism with the Holy Spirit.”
If that’s not enough, get this!
“People of Praise believes that only married couples should have sex, and that marriage is only between a man and a woman.”
To the left this is obviously an insanely radical idea that will lead to a literal Handmaid’s Tale in the United States. Religious Christians believing historically Christian ideas is obviously a huge threat.
Well, in a sense, it is. Such orthodox Christian views are a direct threat to the Marxist program being peddled by the left, which especially emphasises the dethroning of the family as essential to destroying capitalism.
Still, expect to see a tidal wave of these sort of stories spew from the sewer of left-wing commentary over the coming months. “By any means necessary,” is not just an empty slogan for the left.
Amy Coney Barrett is already feeling the sting of media smear campaigns. The BFD. Photoshop: Lushington Brady.
